Sustainable Jewellery - What is recycled Gold?
Share
Hey there, lovely!
As our awareness of environmental issues grows, so does our desire to make more sustainable choices, especially when it's concerning something as precious as jewellery.
Gold and silver are naturally occurring materials, but their extraction can have significant environmental consequences. Traditional mining practices often involve large-scale excavation, deforestation, and the use of harmful chemicals like cyanide and mercury, which can pollute waterways and devastate ecosystems.
But there's a little glimmer of hope in the form of recycled gold and silver this reduces the need for new mining and extracting fresh deposits from the earth, minimising the environmental impact. It helps to conserve natural resources and has a much smaller carbon footprint than mining. It's a small but meaningful way to make a difference.
So, how does the recycling process work? Well, it's a bit like alchemy, turning old into new. Scrap gold from old jewellery, electronic components, etc, is melted down and refined until it reaches its purest form. Then, it's transformed into sheet or wire ready to be fashioned into beautiful jewellery once again.
I use both recycled Gold and silver to hand-make my jewellery, so when you choose a piece of jewellery made by me, you know that you're making a responsible choice.
